Are you going for your lorry or bus driving licence, or do you need to renew your higher-category entitlement? At IntygsKlinik in central Malmö, we help you with the medical examination and the medical certificate for the Swedish Transport Agency. An eyesight test is included, and we send your certificate digitally straight to the Swedish Transport Agency.

In a hurry? We often have appointments available on the same day.

We issue medical certificates for the following entitlements:

  • Lorry: C1, C1E, C and CE.
  • Bus: D1, D1E, D and DE.

When do you need a medical certificate for a lorry or bus?

When you apply for a driving licence permit for a lorry or bus, you need a medical certificate. The Swedish Transport Agency uses it to assess whether you meet the medical requirements.

Higher-category entitlements normally need to be renewed every five years. If you are 45 or older when your entitlement expires, you need a medical certificate for the renewal. If you are younger than 45, a health declaration and a basic eyesight certificate are normally enough.

In some cases, the Swedish Transport Agency may request further medical documentation. Please follow the instructions in the information you received from the Swedish Transport Agency when you book.

How the medical examination works

At your visit, you show valid ID and fill in a health declaration with questions about your health, any illnesses and medication.

You then meet the doctor, who goes through your details and examines you based on the medical requirements for your entitlement. The visit includes an eyesight test and an assessment of, among other things, blood pressure, heart and neurological function.

Once the examination is complete and the documentation is in order, we send the medical certificate digitally to the Swedish Transport Agency. If anything needs to be added, you will be told what the next step is.

What should you bring to your visit?

  • Valid physical ID.
  • Glasses or contact lenses if you use them, and your current eyesight prescription.
  • A list of your medication, if you take any.
  • Any letter or decision from the Swedish Transport Agency with special requirements for the certificate.

If you wear contact lenses, be prepared to take them out for the eyesight test. Please bring a lens case and your glasses.

You normally do not need to bring a blank certificate form, as we fill in and send the medical certificate digitally.

Which medical requirements apply?

Lorry and bus licences have higher medical requirements than an ordinary car driving licence. The doctor assesses, among other things, your eyesight, your general health and whether illnesses or medication could affect your ability to drive.

As a general rule, visual acuity must be at least 0.8 in the better eye and at least 0.1 in the weaker eye. Glasses or contact lenses may be used. There are also special requirements for, among other things, visual field and double vision.

For bus entitlements, your hearing must be good enough for you to communicate with passengers. A hearing aid may be used if needed.

If you have an illness or need to supplement the certificate

An illness does not necessarily mean that you cannot get or keep your higher-category entitlement. The assessment depends on which condition you have, how it is treated and which requirements apply to the entitlement.

For example, with diabetes, heart and vascular disease or certain neurological conditions, the Swedish Transport Agency may need a special certificate from your treating doctor or a specialist. If your eyesight does not meet the requirements, you may need an additional eyesight assessment or new glasses.

We will tell you about any additional documentation needed. It is the Swedish Transport Agency that decides on driving licence permits and the renewal of entitlements.
