When do you need a medical certificate for taxi driving?

You need a medical certificate when you apply for a taxi driver licence. The certificate must be issued within two months before you apply.

You may also need to submit a new certificate if the Swedish Transport Agency requests it, for example to follow up on an illness. However, a medical certificate is not automatically required for a standard renewal of a taxi driver licence.

What the medical examination involves

At your visit, you show valid ID and fill in a health declaration. The doctor goes through your medical background, any illnesses and medications, as well as questions about alcohol and drugs.

An eye test and a basic health examination are included. Once all the documentation is complete, we send the medical certificate digitally to the Swedish Transport Agency.

What should you bring to your visit?

• Valid physical ID.
• Glasses or contact lenses if you use them, preferably together with your current prescription.
• A list of your medications.
• Any letter or decision from the Swedish Transport Agency.

If you wear contact lenses, you need to be ready to take them out for the eye test. Please bring a lens case and your glasses.

You normally do not need to bring a blank form, as we handle the certificate digitally.

Medical requirements and additional documentation

The doctor assesses whether your eyesight, state of health or medications may affect your ability to drive. Some illnesses may require a supplementary certificate from your treating doctor or a specialist.

We will inform you about any additional documentation needed. It is the Swedish Transport Agency that decides on taxi driver licences.
